In the past I have said that not all charismatics are the same, but that they all share the same guilt for their errors. Charismatics are the spawn of Pentecostalism. It is therefore prudent to see whether or not the child of Pentecostalism is just a wild and unprecedented mistake – or if it is a genealogical reproduction of its parent. If it is a mistake, then Pentecostalism might be exonerated. But, what if charismaticism is a true child, an image of its parent? “WHY I LEFT THE PENTECOSTAL CHURCH” (2 Tim 3:14)

Paul could have been thinking of me when he wrote this verse to a young man named Timothy. I was born into a Pentecostal family of many years. My grandfather preached “fire and brimstone” from the time I could remember until his death in 1968. He was some-what an intimidating individual who was demanding and abrupt. I was taught that only those who were “chosen” or “called” could ever enter into the “faithful” ministry of our Lord. I never challenged his thinking or his preaching. What he said was like a direct command from Jesus Christ himself. With this in mind .. at the age of 12 .. I was told I was being called into the ministry and preached my first sermon shortly thereafter. I spent a total of 18 years preaching as a “Pentecostal” preacher. I taught the “Jesus Only” doctrine known as the “Apostolic Faith” (United Pentecostal Church).

Overview
Within the Pentecostal movement, the United Pentecostal Church is quite unusual. It holds some extra-biblical beliefs that separates it from being called Christian. 
It is important to understand that the body of Christ can afford to differ on nonessential issues, but not when it comes to the essentials of the Christian doctrine. It is therefore important to remember that a cult according to the Word of God is any group of people that worship anything or anyone other than Jesus Christ, and believe anything contrary to His Word as found in the Bible. There are many biblical things to which the UPC holds but the Bible should never be twisted and wrangled to fit a particular set of beliefs.
